Searcher From The Bridge

Thu Jul 24 2008, 09:03AM

Hey anglers,

Today we fished offshore. We looked for yellowtail and dorado on kelp paddies. We saw several paddies but only a few had fish on them. We landed 35 yellowtail and 7 dorado for our efforts today. We also caught a 15-pound bluefin tuna on the troll.

We are headed for Cedros Island tonight and will arrive tomorrow morning early. We will have two days to fish there.
On the local scene there was some albacore seen and caught around 100 south of San Diego by some of the boats so hopefully that fish stays up and biting for a while.

More tomorrow,
Capt Art

Weekly Fishing Column: Get out of town before sundown Local fishing has been a disappointment this year. There have been a few days in the Santa Monica Bay when the barracuda have been wide open, but very few. The arrival of migratory sand bass normally takes place around the Fourth of July in the bay. This year however, there have been very few signs of this. That was until this week, when the twilight boat Rocky Point, out of Redondo Sportfishing, began catching copious amounts of the fine-eating fish.

Intrepid Report From The Bridge

Thu Jul 24 2008, 09:00AM

Yesterday we scratched away a nice day offshore on the Tuna grounds. You never knew what you were going to catch from stop to stop, as there was a good mixed bag of fishing all afternoon. We ended up with some big Albacore, some nice grade Yellowfin, and some school sized Bluefin Tuna for our day. Overall we had a fun day catching the mixed bag of Tuna. "The Intrepid Team"

Shogun From The Bridge

Thu Jul 24 2008, 08:46AM

Our day started out strong, spotting a kelp loaded with eager biting yellows. The drift lasted over 45 minutes, with many fish released. Later this morning we fished several other kelps with yellows and dorado. A couple of fish were landed with light spinning gear, with laughs and high fives on deck. The charter master Capt Steve Talmadge keeps the energy high and attitudes upbeat throughout the day. Being an invitational charter he knows all the passengers well, most all fish with him regularly up in San Francisco.

This afternoon we had a troll strike that provided all with a bit of entertainment. A striped marlin of around 200# bit a Speedy Marauder and the fight was on. Stand up style fishing, the Shogun was drifting throughout the event. The fish was released unharmed to fight another day. This evening we are running down to Cedros to give the island our best effort tomorrow.

Royal Polaris Yellows Hot At Cedros

Thu Jul 24 2008, 08:41AM

Hello everyone;

Weather today was slightly overcast, with 12 to 15 knots of breeze.

Fishing a Cedros Island was excellent on Yellowtail in the 18 to 25 pound range. We arrived to Cedros at 08:30 hours. Billy put the anchor down, but with now luck, we would have to try something different. So we pulled the anchor and started drifting, and that was the ticket to a excellent day of Yellowtail fishing. We departed Cedros at 16:00 hours and started heading north, in hopes of catching a few Albacore before we call it a trip.

Until tomorrow, wish us luck. The R/p crew.

Qualifier 105 from the bridge.

Thu Jul 24 2008, 08:29AM

We had our sights set on adding more tuna to our RSW well and were fairly successful in doing so. We managed to scratch out a day of Albacore, YFT, and BFT with a couple Dorado and a standout 33 lb YT. Once again the cedar plug turned out to be the red hot trolling lure of the day consistently stopping the boat all day. The variety of species and consistent action we experienced on
