The Coronados is still the best place to be for an exotic right now. Â Slower fishing this morning and early afternoon. Â Lets hope the bite picks up late in the day. Â Southeast wind conditions created wind against current today, making things tough. Â Smaller boats complaining on the VHF about it being bumpy. Â What little action there has been, is mostly on the middle grounds. Â Bird schools and meter marks let to fish being hooked on yo-yo iron. Â Not much so far in the way of sardine or surface iron fish.
The Navy has announced final implementation of the rules pertaining to access at San Clemente Island. A synopsis is as follows. The complete text of the final rule can be accessed by clicking on the link at the conclusion of this text.
Effective June 21, 2010
The safety zone was configured such that Northwest Harbor and Pyramid Cove would be accessible to the public except during scheduled, hazardous training events.
The Navy has established a permanent watch stander and dedicated call sign (KRAKEN on Channel 82A) that boaters can contact to request safe vessel transit authorization through SWAT 1 (Section G on the chart below) Safety Zone. When authorized by KRAKEN, vessels may safety transit within 3nm of the northern end of San Clemente Island.
Mariners requesting permission to transit through Section G must request authorization from the Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility (FACSFAC) San Diego by hailing KRAKEN (dedicated call sign) on VHF bridge-to-bridge radio connection on Channel 16 or calling 619-545-4742 or 619-545-1742. Once the vessel has established contact with KRAKEN on Channel 16, the vessel will be asked to switch to Channel 82A. The vessel will be asked to provide the following information: Name of vessel and registration number, name of Captain and homeport, military or non-military designation, current location (latitude/ longitude), date and time, and projected transit time through Section G.
VESSELS MUST HAVE AUTHORIZATION FROM KRAKEN TO TRANSIT WITHIN 3NM OF SAN CLEMENTE ISLAND THROUGH SECTION G. No other non-military activities are permitted in Section G at any time. If the vessel does not receive authorization to transit through Section G, the mariner must navigate to greater than 3nm offshore San Clemente Island. Immediately upon completing transit, the vessel operator must promptly notify KRAKEN of safe passage through Section G safety zone.
Mariners who wish to transit through any of the other six sections (A, B, C, D,E, and/or F) will also be required to request permission from FACSFAC San Diego, using the same procedure described above, except during periods when the Navy is not conducting potentially hazardous military training or testing activity. Mariners will be able to transit some or all of these sections without obtaining prior authorization from FACSFAC San Diego only when the Coast Guard notifies the public that enforcement of the zone in specified sections is temporarily suspended. Notice of suspended enforcement will be provided through broadcast notice to mariners and publication in the local notice to mariners; and the schedule of restricted access periods by date, location and duration will continue to be proposed at http://www.scisland.org
Just so you know, the full moon is March 29th. White seabass love to bite around the full moon so start planning a Full Moon WSB Trip. Let's just hope we don't get a lot of wind too.

35' Californian Convertible reduced price by $10,000
Friday was some of the best yellowtail fishing we have seen at SCI in a while. Pyramid Cove erupted with nice big yellowtail biting live squid, with some iron, mackerel abd sardine bite too. If it wre not for the weather forecast, I would be sending you here but you know your boat so it's your call. Great yellowtail fishiing
White Seabass Alert Along the kelp line in Pyramid Cove- Some monster white seabass on live squid and a 1/4 ounce slidder or leadhead- Best to fish with the 40 pound on these nice seabass
Weather on Friday- Excellent but small craft advisory set for 3 PM
Very nice weather again Wednesday and decent pick again this morning at the big yellowtail. Mixed in are some nice halibut too with great calico bass fishing on the front side kelp lines. You may find some yellowtail on the front too as there have been schools of yellows up breezing there too this morning. Dropper loop with live squid, drifting in 20 fathoms has been the best way to nail these prized forkies. Keep your eyes on the weather as that is the key. Looks like even better weather tomorrow.

Great calico action and some big yellowtail here at China point that are also biting in the nice weather. Love what's going on here with the bluefin tuna so close. Gives you lots of Options.

Great calico bass fishing here today on the live squid and sardine. There are a few yellowtail running around here too and if you are up tight to the kelp, you do have a chance at a white seabass or two too. The problem in too tight to the kelp is that the fish can wrap you up in a hurry in there so many times, at least for the yellowtail, it's wise to move off the kelp line in to 15 to 20 fathoms
Slow trolled mackerel Has been very effective in 15 fathoms for yellowtail here thi9s morning. Great way to get it done.

Several boats are there this morning for just a handful of seabass and yellowtail in perfect weather. Of course, the hope is that it is time of day, a term we use for when the fish go on the bite. Sometimes, it's like a light switch and can go from very slow fishing such as we have now to full speed wide open. 976-TUNA is all over it for you so stand by before you spend your hard earned sportfishing dollar. Standby as things can change in a heartbeat.

Good show on the 5 to 12 pound yellowtail along with some yellows to 20 plus pounds and lots of bonito. 15 fathoms seems to be just right to keep you out of the kelp. Move in closer to the kelp for some decent calico fishing.Good fishing right now and if you look around the Mackerel Bank on your way home, you might find some YFT too.
