Nick is checking in for the Freelance out of Davey's Locker Newport Beach. They stuck localy with no wind early and did good on the scilpin before heading over to Catalian. Once there they started to pick at the legal bass, bonito, and barracuda. Late in the day they found a spot of yellowtail and pick a nice 15-pound model up on the surface iron. Returned this am from another 1.75 with a nice load of bluefin. We were a few short on limits but still had a nice score on 18-170# fish  23 passengers  71 bluefin

Our 1.5 Day returned this morning with 5 bluefin in the 150lb range. We had plenty of opportunities for a catch of a lifetime all throughout the trip (fish well over 250). We were definitely under gunned for this class of fish which resulted in many heartbreaks and sore backs. Leave the spinning rods at home and come out and catch a personal best! Tackle recommendation:

1. 80 pound sinker rig or 150-200 gram jig during the day
2. 80+ pound rig with a 200-300 gram jig for night fishing
3. 25-30 pound flyline for the smaller grade fish
4. 40-50 pound with a 100-150 gram colt sniper or small flatfall for fish under 60 pounds
